Broken Pick Land and Cattle Company, LLC (“BP”) was formed in early 2006 by its owners, Steve and Ardy Whisler. BP purchased the Broken Pick Ranch, then known as Two Medicine Ranch, in March 2006, and immediately began repairing and rehabilitating the property, building new facilities and stocking the ranch. The first registered cattle purchased by the ranch were registered Hereford and Angus cows and bulls from nationally recognized registered seed stock breeders. The Gypsy Basin Ranch, where our black baldy commercial operation is located, was purchased in November 2006. The herds have been systematically built by purchases from leading producers around North America and retention of the very top end of our calf crops. The core Angus and Hereford registered herds are in place, and efforts going forward will be focused on improving herd characteristics and genetics. All registered animals are rigorously evaluated and culled. Annual registered production is either sold by private treaty or retained in herd. An extensive embryo transplant operation is conducted within the registered herds. In addition to utilizing elite genetic flush matings, the recipient cow herd comprises superior cows in its own right—many are registered animals themselves. We believe superior maternal involvement is as important as the genetic matings. All commercial replacement heifers are ranch bred and raised, and the quality of replacements continues to grow.
